PE for CHG USA
Ridiculous pop-up this Saturday, Oct. 8th! Extended-hours til 9:30PM, one-night only – “October 8th: In Celebration of the 1st Sighting of Kepler’s SuperNova” – a peek at some of the line-up for CHG’s SCOPE Miami 800+ square-foot exhibition space! New works by HUSH, BUFF MONSTER, PURE EVIL and MICHAEL MARARIAN, plus available pieces by D*FACE, EINE, KUKULA, NICK WALKER and two rare street alphabet paintings by RISK. Check out the attached images for the “first sighting” for LA fans. All pieces will be available and online previews for each individual artist’s works can be requested at jch@coreyhelfordgallery.com.

We’ve just started putting up a few of the pieces handed in so far for the Preview of the ROBBO auction @ Pure Evil Gallery
The preview of the auction opens Thursday evening at 6pm but some images of the work donated so far is up already because we want to get on it straight away… so far we have already raised abut £25,000 selling paintings and prints which is going towards Robbo and his family… he has a baby who is 1 year and 8 months old and other children and we’re trying to help the family out.
The guy is in a coma still, but he seems to be responding to some commands… anyone who has speculated about his injury and what actually happened to put him in hospital heres the scoop : He fell outside his house and hit his head really badly on some stone steps and he has been in hospital ever since.
I dont care about the graffiti / street art politics behind Banksy vs Robbo thats just a falling out between 2 painters. In the bigger picture of things its meaningless . This is more important than all that, we’re just trying to help out a mate. He’s no angel but he’s had a hard knock (literally) and he needs our help.

Synesthesia An evening with Pure Evil
7 August 2011 / Synesthesia
An evening with Pure Evil
at GALERIE8
6 – 9 pm
Music creates impulse and inspiration in the search for a pure and transcendental art form for many visual artists. By listening, performing and experimenting with sound, artists have discovered unconventional techniques in their approach to making art. For Synesthesia, Sunday Sound Waves has invited artist Pure Evil to transform the GALERIE8 atrium into his own imaginative space and explore the music and sound that extends from, and in turn influences, his artistic practice.
Recreating speakers, constructing his own inventive instruments and creating impulsive work, the artist will engage in a one-off jam session blending music and art to create an all-encompassing transformative environment.
Synesthesia, or the blending of senses, means that sensory perception of one kind can manifest itself as a sensory experience of another – sounds can be seen, colours can be heard, words can be tasted. Within the arts, the concept of synesthesia links the visual and the auditory, revealing ways in which music can influence and inspire art and art making – in the form of a muse or as an escape.
With the many ways in which sound and vision are linked, what will actually be seen and heard comes down to the individual. Both music and art are ultimately idiosyncratic and the experiences that result can be thought of as form of synesthesia, as the synesthetic experience comes from uniting the senses within the mind, transforming and transposing the experience of sound.
The evening will also include a sound piece by the artist as well as a screening of film shorts that provide engaging and stimulating material through which the concept of Synesthesia can be explored and understood.
The event is FREE and open to the public.
About the artist:
To understand a bit about Pure Evil it is illuminating to know that he is a descendant of Sir Thomas More, the Lord Chancellor who wrote the controversial work Utopia and who was later beheaded by King Henry VIII. With this busy background (Sir Thomas was later canonised) it is only natural that Pure Evil should explore the darker side of the wreckage of Utopian dreams and the myth of the Apocalypse, a belief in the life-changing event that brings history with all its conflicts to an end.

Pure Evils ancestry is alleged to include eight saints: Vladimir the Great, Saint Anna of Russia, the Holy Martyrs Boris and Gleb, Saint Stephen of Hungary, Saint Margaret of Scotland and Saint Mathilde together with Saint Thomas More, Humbert III of Savoy and several European royal families. He was also a descendant of the Old English Chieftain Ailric, Kings Thane to Edward the Confessor, who held Cawthorne and much of South Yorkshire before the Conquest.
CROSSIE is a Brighton UK based stencil artist who specialises in winged creatures of all kinds, her nature based layered pieces are influenced by her background in textile design . She is an enigma wrapped in dark mystery …

Pure Evil Gallery presents ‘Birth of Namahage’ new Monotype prints by Grady Gordon.
PRESS RELEASE ***********************************************
Opening July 7th, 2011 at Pure Evil Gallery 6-9pm opening event.
In his fifth series of monotype prints, Grady Gordon examines the ‘Namahage,’ an elusive member of the Japanese Yokai, an amalgamation of various monsters and myths. In Western culture, the Namhage is equivalent to the boogeyman. The strangely ironic wretch is known for donning the masks of other monsters. In this series the faces aim to show what is hiding behind the mask. Utilizing a grouping of nondescript patterns and textures as the vessel, Grady illuminates the beast that moonlights as another. ‘I want people to make their own monsters when they look at my prints. I’m interested in the internal dialogue this may create; a remembered boogeyman,’ explains Grady.
‘Birth of Namahage’ is composed of 23 new monotype prints on rives bfk paper. It is Grady’s first solo European show.
There will be a limited edition show zine available during the shows run.
(b.1979)
Grady Gordon is originally from santa fe, nm. in the high-desert he grew up alongside various art forms, most notably the native American ‘katchina’ wood carvings of numerous spirits. these spirits allowed him to investigate the world beyond our limit. The japanese ‘yokai’ are also another great source of inspiration.
In his prints, grady searches for xrayz of mortality, the face behind the veil, and aims to illuminate what is staring back at us.
The monotype print is a study of impermanence. unlike other forms of printmaking the monotype offers only one copy. the original image on the plate is then given back to the ether, back into the fabric.
Grady has shown work in santa fe, los angeles, london, and paris…

Sunday Sound Waves: A Series Exploring Sound and Visual Culture / 18:00 – 21:00
Throughout six weeks in July and August, this series will aim to critically engage with the surrounding environment through sound, and to explore the influences it has on new ways of making and experiencing visual forms.
The series includes a broad range of artists and creators that are increasingly blurring genre lines and sensibilities in the realms of sound and visual culture. Participating artists will do this by recording the sounds of architectural spaces, re-inventing musical instruments, using sound as a sculptural material, or working with music and cinematography.
Guest curated by Alexa Kusber.

Felipe Yung 'FLIP' 'ShungaPop' show at PE Gallery
“Shunga Pop” is Felipe Yung “Flip”’s first solo exhibition in London.
The artist shows the ironic aesthetics of pop art within a particular universe such as oriental pornography.
There are indicators that the production of erotic drawings denominated Shunga (cent. XVI) was meant exclusively for the court. It took hundreds of years for this art to be popularized and the purpose of such images were not exclusively for pleasure and visual stimulus, but also for sexual education from foreplay practices to proper hygiene. In the Western World, they would have probably been censored due to its explicit and out of proportion sexual organs.
Flip is part of Famiglia Baglione and lives in São Paulo, as cosmopolitan a city as New York and London, home to the largest Japanese population outside Japan. Due to his multiple cultural roots, the artist has great admiration and is largely influenced by the oriental culture and philosophy, a constant element in his artwork.
The exhibition features paintings executed on handmade paper originally printed in Kyoto, Japan. In a malicious way the images lacking decorum suggest paradoxes, once there is dialogue between sexual elements ibrandtand childish characters and vibrant patterns.

Marina Fages at Pure Evil Gallery
Marina came to see me about a month ago, showed me some of her work which I liked a lot. Since then we have been making music together . Shortly after one of our music session she got hit by a bus.
She survived the accident but unfortunately her ‘charango’ a small Argentinian ukelele type guitar did not survive the accident. It was crushed to death on Shoreditch High Street.
It would be great if you could come and see her exhibiton and maybe buy one of her fantastic paintings so she can buy a new ‘charango’ so we can make more great songs like this one. This is the last song the little Charango made before its untimely and violent death…
The exhibition opens this Thursday… come down !

Blackout Blisters
Following the success of its Secret Blisters exhibition last year and the Blisters On My Fingers show of the previous year, London-based screenprinting club, Print Club London opens its doors on the 3rd December for its third annual print exhibition. This year, there will be 40 exhibiting artists, 40 editioned and signed silkscreen prints by each, selling for £40 a pop. Entrants had to include a glow-in-the-dark element to the designs – as the exhibition venue (a rather wonderful shabby old warehouse in Dalston) will be plunged into darkness at various points during the opening night so the assembled can see the posters a-glowing. Each year Fred, Rose and Kate open up the exhibition for submissions – anyone can submit! But they also go after a few favourites. This year some golden oldies are taking part and it’s going to be incredible. The key to the show they believe is aligning some really established illustrators, street artists and designers alongside those fresh out of art school. Their aim is to take affordable art prints to a wider demographic, encouraging buyers to invest in original artwork. Street Artist Ben Eine famous for his letters on shuttering now spreading worldwide, and a favourite artist of David Cameron who gifted Eines work to President Obama, will be signing his prints live on the opening night! Whilst old schooler Jamie Reid is also taking part, famous for his Sex Pistols album cover “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols” and once described by Sean O’Hagan of The Observer as “the single most iconic image of the punk era”, Reid has produced a print for the show. Other artists include: MR BINGO, CLIFFORD RICHARDS, STEVIE GEE, SI SCOTT, PETER STITSON, LUKE INSECT, HENNIE HAWORTH, PURE EVIL, STEVIE GEE and many more! SHOW OPENS @ 6pm on Friday 3rd December VENUE: MC Motors, Millers Ave, Dalston, E82ds The show will be open Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th 12midday -6pm

Paste-Modernism 2.
Re-Taste The Paste
Curated by Ben Frost and Bridge Stehli.
In August 2008, the first Paste-Modernism event hit Sydney with a resounding, wheat-paste splodge onto the derelict walls of Hibernian House in Surry Hills.
see article about Paste Modernism 1 here:
http://www.juxtapoz.com/Features/paste-modernism-goes-down-in-sydney-australia
http://www.pastemodernism.com
Paste Modernism returns in it’s second incarnation with a list of local and international paste-up artists such as:
SMC, JUMBO, ZAP, PURE EVIL, COPYRIGHT, ROYAL, DRYPNZ, OLIVE47, BUNKWAA, RICO, KONSUMTERROR, FELIX, APESEVEN, MAX BERRY, BEN FROST, BRIDGE STEHLI, NUMSKULL, ANTHONY LISTER, HA-HA, DRAB, VEXTA, MINI-GRAFF, ESJAY, HOUL, CREON, JOHN DOE + MANY MANY MORE
Over 40 artists have entered the space over 4 days before the opening, to transform the walls of Lo-Fi into a visual mash-up of pasted up creations, that is normally
only ever seen on the streets. From hand painted colour to black and white photocopies, from screenprints to large scale drawings – the only restriction is that the work
must be on paper and must be able to be wheat-pasted to the walls of the gallery.
In the same way that street art is a movement available to everybody, the concept of Paste-Modernism is not defined by any ‘artist heirachy’ or exclusivity and so the call-out to artists was open to everybody who wanted to particpate. In doing so we hope to generate not only a further appreciation for the artform but innovation by the artists as they work beside each other in the space.
The exhibition will only be up for 4 days and will evolve over the duration of the opening as artists contiue to add and modify the walls as they see fit.
Because of Pastemodernism’s ephemeral nature, none of the artwork will be for sale, and will rely heavily on documentation to be uploaded to the internet for it to continue on..
Curated by Ben Frost and Bridge Stehli.
Venue: Lo-Fi Collective, 383 Bourke St, Darlinghurst, Sydney. (above Kinsellas on Taylor Square)

Opening: Thursday October 7th, 2010 – 6pm – 9pm
exhibition continues until Monday morning 11th October -

Nychos Show coming SOON
HOT CHICKS BEWARE !!…….
Pure Evil Gallery and End of the Line present the Nychos HorrorShow, the premiere solo exhibition of Austria’s greatest export in London’s finest street art gallery.
The Austrian Illustrator and Graffiti artist NYCHOS, who is mainly known for his prolific street art concept the RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT, the secret of the ooze will be revealed at the Pure Evil Gallery from Thursday September 16th 2010.
His first solo UK exhibition looks set to rock the foundations of the London establishment, combining his original comic styling with heavy metal attitude.
Twisted at birth, brainwashed throughout his childhood, poisoned by the media and fostered by the dark side, Nychos, the evil genius has been genetically modifying an army of lime green mutated tentacles, maggots, monsters and femme fatales to take over the world. Muah hahahaha
In 2009, Nychos took part in Meeting of Styles London and End of the Line’s group exhibition ‘Shades of Things to Come’ at the Maverik Gallery in November. His work, a critique on the topics of media and society, both his aversion and addiction, will take you to the deepest depths of the burrow.
So clench both hands, extend your left and right pinkie and bring your fists together….
THERE IS TOO MUCH METAL FOR ONE HAND!!!
Follow the white rabbit.

Contemporary Prints from the V&A
The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is the first venue to host a brand new touring exhibition from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London – Street Art: Contemporary Prints from the V&A. Street art is a diverse, constantly evolving art form, one that moves across the derelict buildings, bus shelters and hoardings of cities around the world. Its roots lie in history, echoing cave paintings and stencilled slogans and images in political campaigning.
The exhibition showcases the work of some of the biggest artists in the street art community such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Sickboy, Pure Evil and D*Face.
The Herbert has also commissioned six emerging artists on the UK street scene to decorate its white walls. Fresh Paint will contain brand new work from Pahnl, SPQR, Lucy McLauchlan, Ben Slow, AsOne and Newso.
To explore another aspect of the street art scene, the Herbert will be showcasing new aerosol art from Birmingham based graffiti artist Mohammed Ali. Ali calls his art, AerosolArabic, a unique fusion of urban graffiti art with traditional Arabic Islamic calligraphy.
